National Charity

Royal British Legion Industries

Established in 1919, Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI) is a national veteran charity supporting the Armed Forces community and people with disabilities. We do this by providing homes, jobs and welfare support both on and off our veteran village in Kent.

We wanted to evolve our safety process and culture so that despite a wide range of activities and locations we had a consistent approach and ethos to Health and Safety across the organisation.

A key element of this was to improve our data around both incidents and also compliance with our risk controls.

We were introduced to BCarm by our Insurance Broker, Centor Insurance and Risk Management (now Clear Insurance), who believed BCarm could deliver a solution that would be flexible and adaptable to our requirements.

From the outset the structure of BCarm made it easy for us to relate and map across our existing “electronic” Safety Management system.  The “Board to Floor” access to the most granular data from our Dashboard satisfied key decision-making criteria.

BCarm is an integral component in our Safety evolution.

Another key consideration was BCarm’s ability to produce data for us around our compliance with our Risk Assessments and other safety controls. It does this with the proactive monitoring regimes that can be set for Risk Assessments, the use of Checklists and the self-assessment element of E-Learning. We recognised this Lead indicator data was something that would help us evolve Safety to the next level.

The “change” of implementing new systems can create challenges, so the unlimited remote support that BCarm provides, whether around the initial implementation planning or training of our Safety Team, was important. The ongoing support has helped us refine our process and learn more about the systems’ capabilities.

Our initial focus was Incident Reporting. BCarm has enabled us to implement a consistent reporting platform across the organisation with the flexibility to deal with some specific requirements within our Care operations. Even employees who do not regularly use technology have become advocates.

This improvement in our incident reporting has enabled us to change the dynamics of our Safety Meetings, as we are able to focus on the issues at hand backed up with data rather than subjectivity. The Corrective Action tracking within the Incident Manager has allowed us to more easily evidence the activity we take when required. This has helped create higher levels of Engagement across the organisation.

Similarly, we are seeing increased levels of engagement by moving Checklists into the App, making it easier to complete and simplifying the process. This, again, is creating better visibility and data for us.

BCarm is an integral component in our Safety evolution.
